The BRAKE/ASR/ABS lights were on, on the dash on my new-to-me 1993 Anniversary Edition car, auto trans, 100k miles. I've had it for a few days now.
I checked the brake fluid level, and topped it off. When the light didn't go out, a couple of days later, I tested it per the FSM and the resistance was lower than 5 ohms (in the low 4's, i.e. 4.1 I think). I repaced the switch today, and no love.. all the lights still on. ....
...and then I checked the fluid level, and it was low again. So now I'm concerned. Either a) I hadn't filled it earlier this week or b) there's a leak somewhere.
Since the car stops just fine, I am thinking, it has to be leaking from the master cylinder. Is that a fair assumption? I know I need to pull all the tires and check the brakes anyway - so that's on my list of things to do. but if the brakes are WORKING fine, how can there be a leak elsewhere? It has to be the MC somehow.
Is there a common place that the MCs on these cars leak? What should I look for? I don't SEE any seepage on it.
I would find out what code is stored, and go from there. The only hidden place for a master cylinder to leak is into booster. You could unbolt it and look.

Well, I checked the location where the MC meets the PBR - and what do you know, it looks like it's weeping. I'll check the FSM... but how hard is this to repair? There must be a gasket or something that goes between there.

Thanks
there are seals around the shaft of the master cyl plunger that presses the fluid down the lines. i think they are just orings but they leak eventually.
when i asked this question a couple years ago i was told that in the past there repair kits. now, we just buy a whole new master cylinder.
dont forget to bleed when you are done.
a tip. if your fluid is dirty, good. when you are hooked up again, bleed each line out and you will see bubbles but slso when tge fluid turns from dark to clear you know you have full flushed each line.
Thanks folks. I've topped it off now - right up to the threads of the neck. The lights are out and it's working fine. I'll see how long before the level goes down. Maybe I hadn't added enough before... we'll see.
