There are three codes that pertain to the MAF sensor: Codes 33, 34, and 36. Code 33 (mass air signal voltage high) is set when the computer sees a high mass air reading at low engine speeds. In other words, there appears to be more airflow through the MAF sensor than the engine can physically breath at a specific throttle and rpm.

check your connections and test it might need a new one.

OP - How long has it been since the car ran well and didn't have the SES/CEL?

I believe that you maybe attempt to confirm this TSB has or hasn't been performed.

Is your '86 an early car with cast iron heads or a late car with aluminum heads. Did you have the timing reset etc after your plugs/wires etc. There's lots for you to check and I'd maybe try to detail in another post to this thread some of what I've mentioned and based on your responses an '86 owner will respond with some thoughts.

I don't recall where the decal would have been placed if this TSB had been performed or if there actually really was one.

A very old post that might be an interesting read:

There's many good reads and the search works relatively well in the C4 community home page. Use the "SEARCH THIS FORUM button above THREADS/POST from this link:

https://www.corvetteforum.com/forums...-1984-1996-19/

Searching from there keeps the searches in just the C4 community.

My evaluation is that the MAF is not communicating with the ECM. Check all the connector pins and associated wires.

You might have a bad MAF power relay. I suggest replacing both MAF relays so you know they're OK.
