Default Scanners

Sorry if this is not posted correctly but am a new ZR1 owner. A 91 red/blk #591 with 11,500 miles. I am interested to see what code scanners I should possibly be considering. Something affordable that would work well should I require one. Thanks.

DON'T buy a code reader since it is merely a glorified paperclip. I would get something that can read data stream. Maybe a Snap On MT2500 on ebay or an older scanner than can read both OBD1 and OBD2? Or a Tech One that has a module for your car so you can even check other stuff.

Yea aklim is correct and you can use a paper clip to make the dash lights flash the trouble codes. But that gets awkward after a while. You can find the Actron CP9001 on Amazon for 15 bucks.

But if you want to data capture or better in real time you need to look in the used products like AutoXray for OBD I with the proper GM connector/cable. For the best diagnostic tool you would want a laptop w/software and again the correct cable which has a serial converter circuit in line whether USB or RS232.

Hope this helps.

The Snap-On MT2500 or "Red Brick"is probably the most readily available OBD1 scanner and best value to be found used. A Tech1a would be best. Most of the OBD1 scanners required cartridges to access the different systems, you will want to have the all the necessary hardware. Missing necessary cartridges can be hard to find. GM Tech1 and Mac Master tech, were both made by Vectronix which is now part of Bosch, tend to be most expensive. You will also want FSM set to go with scanner.

I agree with Aklim and Kevova.I bought a used Snap On. It's one of the best investments I've made.If you can afford it get the one that reads OB 1 and 2

The Mt2500 scanner has my vote also. Just be sure it comes with the cartridges and adapter you need. I believe the GM1 adapter is needed for the obd1. Should also have the gm primary cartridge. Troubleshooter and ABS cartridges would be nice to have also.

I found a very nice MT2500 on ebay. Had the needed components for a couple other cars we own as well as the MT2500-10. should be here middle of next week. I have no current known issues, but since the ZR1 only has 11,500 miles I do expect some to show up. Thank you all for the information.

Does your car have a CCM? Tunerpro RT has a definition set for the Y-car 91 LT5 but it has no method of handling the CCM, if any even existed with the LT5. If no CCM, then their "8E.ads" file should work for you. Price is right at just the cost of a cable ($60) if you have an available pc handy.

Received the MT2500 yesterday and pulled out the cables and connectors for the car. Went out this morning and hooked it up ran thru the various procedures and tests. It is actually easier than reading the books. For the first time using it I am pretty pleased. I will end up spending more time and getting more familiar with the various parameters.
All I need is an updated module that will cover two of our newer vehicles as well. Have already found them on Ebay.
And I found no systems on the LT5 to be out of their ranges. It was a code 12.

Or you can go to Autozone and they will scan it for free.

Between Tuner Pro and the TunerCat stuff which one is preferred. The TunerCat stuff seems pretty seamless for a '91 L98

I have adx files for the LT5 that will work for scanning and ignore the CCM

Default Tunerpro 1993 Corvette LT1

I tried tunerpro 5 RT, It just kept flashing error in the lower connect screen.
Read about an ignore junk command.
I could not figure it out.
I went to tunerpro 4 RT.
It seems to work, but I am not 100% sure I have the correct info files.
Anyone get RT5 to work on 1993 LT1 Vette?
What are the correct info files for RT 4 ??

I have a 91 C4 and bought a Autoxray Codescout 2500 and it says it reads key on engine off as well as key on engine running. Its says you have to run the KOEO first but I sure cant see any way to read with the engine running. It doesn't give me the option. Now with OBD 2 vehicles I have no problem. All I can get from my car for some reason is trouble codes but it never stores any. I found a web site to order a OBD1 to USB cable for a lap top and it says you can download the diagnostics software for free from several places. Anyone have any ideas?

I started RT5 I dropped this file and ee.adx into the rt5 screen.
Header on program has them both listed as loaded.
Header of program says no BIN file loaded.

Do I select open bin file then point to this file?
Is this a bin file?
