Default 1988 corvette PROCHARGER question.

Long time now i have asked a bunch of questions. But... Procharger makes a well procharger for the l98 and they say it works on the stock out of the factory basically. My question is, is this true? my vette almost has 150K on it. BUT it was rebuilt the engine wise back to factory.

What would i have to do?

What should i look at?

Will the stock internals actually hold?

Will the tranny be fine?

Thanks!

Hi

The stock engine will be fine as long as the rings are good and seal well, the transmission will not last long depending on the boost level and when it was last rebuilt. A standard original 150,000 mile trans will not last. Is the trans fluid bright red? if its brown that is the clutch material discoloring it....

6 to 8psi is safe, any more and you will need forged pistons.
I ran 9psi for 7 years before the blowby was causing too many oil leaks, it would force oil out the dipstick and gaskets at 170,000 miles the original engine was replaced.

I have gone through several 3-4 thousand dollar high performance auto transmissions, am now running 12 - 14 psi boost with my 383 engine with forged steel crank rods and forged pistons.

You will need to replace the universal joints every 3 to 4 years.

If you get the whole procharger kit you will be fine, or talk to Greg at blowerworks he is the blower guru.

Good luck and enjoy.
