Why does it have to? Just bend it back enough when you need to.

Just pull and wiggle! I couldn't get mine out without alot of effort. I crushed it with pliers and pulled it right out. It wasn't expensive for a new one at the Chevy dealer, but I had to wait a day or two for them to get one it. In the meantime since I knew I wasn't low on oil, I just folded the old one over so oil couldn't come out the top and jammed it in the hole.

Good luck. That was the last PIA of the install for me until I noticed that that header had a pinhole in the weld and had to remove it again a couple days later.
