Service Engine light on and losing power accelerating
Hey guys,
This morning I've started my 89' Corvette at about 8:30 AM outdoor Temperature of (3-degree celsius). I waited for the car to warm up until it hit about 50c. Once I was on the road I felt like I lost power when I was accelerating, Then the "Service engine soon" light came up and Once I came to the stop lights the car just suddenly turned itself off. It has also come to my intention that all my electronic gadgets (Trip info etc.) were reset. First thing came into my mind that maybe the battery was acting up but I've recently changed my battery (3-4 months ago) and I had no problems regarding this issue before. I drive my car on a regular basis and this is the first time I had this issue.
I drove my car for another 5 minutes and got stuck in the traffic and again the car started to work weird (losing RPM) and again it shuts itself down. I'm not sure exactly what's going on at that point. I barely made it to my work this morning after car shutting down for another 3 times. I will try to run my car little bit later today to see if the problem still continues.
I was hoping to get an advice/answer or solution for my issue.
I would look at the battery cables and connections if you have side bolts pull them out and clean behind them. I would also test the alt and battery.
Thanks for the advice. I'm just kind a worried because I had an issue similar like this one about a year an half ago where my fuse box is. My ECM fuse burned where its connected and I got it fixed and the mechanic solved the problem by wiring a custom cable and connect the fuse into that custom input. Do you think that might of caused that?
It's winter and car is ready to hibernate until July, I mean spring lol For everything to reset you are losing 12v or ground The original problem that your guy tried to wire around may still be the cause. Does car gradually lose power or does it just turn off? I would check fuel pressure and spark. Does voltmeter do anything strange when car loses power?
