Default Help Requested - Early C4 Wheels?

I had no idea this was all so confusing. I asked about it once, sometime back, and I thank you for all the helpful responses.

My car is a 1985.

As I learned, there are significant differences in the wheels for older C4's.

I used this chart for the following calculations. Is it correct?

http://www.corvetteguys.com/wheels-tires-fitment.html

It has stock, base, wheels at 16x8.5 with +32mm offset for front and rear.

Then I learned there aren't a lot of wheels to choose from in that size.

There are a bunch of 8" wheels, though.

The tires are g-Force Sport COMP-2 255/50 R16 99 W.

BF Goodrich claims the specs for this tire put it in the "7-9" inch rim width range.

Then, I relied on this calculator. (Which seems pretty comprehensive.)

http://www.willtheyfit.com/index.php...t2=25#isPage=1

And it says a 16x8 with a 25mm offset is a very close match.

Questions:

Is the information correct?

Am I doing this correctly or forgetting anything?

Will these wheels fit?

Because if they will, there is a world more options for the early cars that I realized.

These are cheap, but I like them a lot. I'm seeing so many 5 spokes out there, and kind of want something different.

You need to be very careful - the wheel you've linked to is mentioned to only be 5 X 4.5 bolt circle BUT the image appears to be a "multi-fit" which would contradict that statement - very careful. You need wheels that are either 5 X 4.75 or stated as 5 X 120.65 (NOT 120)

I'm so glad you caught that. I thought for sure I saw somewhere it was 5/4.5.. But you're right, those wouldn't have worked.

With some searching, you should be able to find nice wheels that are not the usual 5-spoke design. I would suggest that you try to find a 16" wheel with a 38mm offset and 9.5" wide. That is what the Z51 package had on the 84-87 cars. The 255/50 tire works great on a 9.5" wheel. GM used the 255/50 tire on all 84-87 cars and they did fit either rim width.

If you use an 8" wheel, the sidewall of the 255 tire will bow inwards and that curve could cause issues with handling and heat buildup in the sidewall. A 245 treadwidth would be a better fit on an 8" wide wheel.

If new tires are in the future, I would suggest starting to look for 17x9.5" wheels and 275/40-17 tires. There are lots of tires in that size still available and in a wide variety of performance levels. The 255/50-16 tire may be hard to find in a couple years.

If I where you I would go to a 17 wheel because the 16" tires are getting harder to find and not many options. Afs wheels have zr1 reps for the early model c4 that are a good value, you just have to keep an eye for when they get them in stock.

I don't havea lot of experience with these either but I've been learning and as best I can tell there are adaptors available that will allow you to use the late C4 wheels or at least the next iteration. That would include the sawblades and the spacey ones from the 1989 MY. Some say the adaptors will allow the use of the C5 wheels. I've seen a number of early C4s with both. Plenty of both available on craigs at least here in atl. Hope this helps.
