Here's why I'm surprised: my previous car, a 92 Mustang (alright, boo and hiss) was heavily modified, as in heads, cam, intake, gears, tons of stuff. Best I ever got was a 13.1 at 104, in really good weather.
I think my new Vette has 12's written all over it, as it sits! Between the weather and the poor launching, I think there's another 3 tenths in there somewhere. I love this new car!!!

The Mustang is a great bang for the buck performance car. 85-93 Fox Body Mustangs are very sturdy , cheap , super easy to modify and have TONS of parts available for them. Dont forget (oh wait, you were born in 85) that they were KING in their day. A lightly optioned 87-93 LX Mustang coupe could put down 210 rwhp with a filter (no snorkel) and a good tune (advance the timing , good ole distributors, before your time ;) ) and with that and a 3100 lb weight full of fluids, run a low 14 sec 1/4 mile. That was enough to slaughter Camaros /Firebirds of the day and run right with most L98 Vettes costing WAY more. They gain big time with just bolt ons- getting them into the low 13's easily. Add some good heads and cam and they can be 12 second cars.
Sure there are those semi-lame performing heads/cam cars out there just as there are with our Vettes. But dont let that fool you. And remember , they are only working with 302 cid stock, not 350. The 302 Windsor is an excellent design and with all the right after market performance parts (plenty of which are readily, cheaply available) , it can easily make as much or more power inch for inch than the vast majority of SBC I and II motors out there and even run with LS1/6's. So, again , dont be so quick to judge.
Even the newer 4.6's are much more respectable than most of us admit without really looking or understanding. The DOHC 4v Cobra mod 4.6's can make over 500 rwhp naturally aspirated with under 318 cid. Stock 96 Cobras with a Vortech, hpipe, MAF, custom tune , power pipe can make 450 rwhp pretty easily, those things LOVE forced induction. Their heads when heavily worked can flow over 320 cfm on the intake side!! There blocks are very strong as are there stock forged steel cranks. They can safely rev very high with the DOHC's.........again , dont be so quick to judge.
Dont get me wrong , I love Vettes too and generally can outrun most Stangs I come across. Just dont lose respect for them , because they really dont deserve it. They are formidable adversaries when set up and driven well , as well as being cheap and alot of fun. Their chassis are very antiquated but sturdy and cheap/easy to mod, but still no match for the purpose built sports cars that our Vettes are.....
Sorry for the soap box , but hope you learned some stuff....... :seeya

Wait a minute. I just read one of your other posts. Is your car a 6-speed? Those times sound like an LT4 car to me.
