Default Removing Cats/Precats?

Should I remove these? If so, how do I do this?

"Should" is a matter of objectives.

The usual procedure is to replace the front Y with a mandrel-bent unit and the stock main cat with a hi-flow 3-stage cat. These two mods result in more HP and a "sportier" sound.

Is the front Y pipe advertised in the MAD catalog mandrel bent? :yesnod:

I've been wondering this myself.

It's mandrel bent, but could use some clean up at the Y joint. I had to return mine as it did not fit. However, have not heard complaints about this recently.

I just replaced mine with a kit from Eckler's, no precats. So far, so good. I've had it on for over a month with no problems. It is louder, but I like it. Oh, I also passed Illinois emissions with it. Do it! :chevy

I got the mandrel-bent Y from MAD a few years ago and the workmanship was so bad that I returned it and had one custom built at a local exhaust shop.

I too recently easily passed a dyno emissions test in OH with my mods.

I had no trouble from the Ecklers front 'Y'. It will give you a louder sound in a good way and you also might start getting the dreaded code 32 at highway speeds.

I've had no problem with code 32, maybe your EGR Temp Sw (or the insulation on the EGR pipe) should be replaced.

I retained the stock Y pipe and had the pre cats removed and replaced with "test pipes" when I had the high flow cat installed. I do have the dreaded code 32 from time to time.
