Default Lt1 oil pump drive gear upgrade

Having a hard timing finding and upgraded oil pump drive gear for my 93 lt1. Is there such a thing? Or just go with a new stock one. I'm putting a hot cam in and high volume pump and wanna reliable gear in there. Been reading alot about sheered teeth on stockinette after cam/pump change. Thanks.

Look into the composite gear from Comp cams for the distributor and see if it will work with the LT1 oil pump drive. Since the drive gear is hard to replace (Pull intake) I would get the best gear possible in the car especially with a high volume pump.

since the "Hot Cam" is OEM cam a stock gear should be ok. You do want to check how gears mesh when stub is installed. Other mod to consider would be slotting housing to lube gears.

I dunno if this will take you to it, but try reading my thread " replacing LT oil pump stub drive " there's some good info there.

I experienced a sheared oil pump drive gear. The problem is not so much the gear itself, as the mount for the pump drive in the valley. The OEM part is plastic and has been known to crack, or break. If it cracks, the pump gear moves around and that causes the problem. I believe if buy the assembly from Melling, it comes with a proper metal mount.

Does anyone know the oil pump inlet size on a 93? 5/8 or 3/4?

I believe that all LT engines used a 3/4 inch inlet pickup; at least that's what I always got when I purchased a series of oil pumps for my 96. I would suggest that in any case that if purchasing a new pump, also purchase the pickup designed for that pump and that oil pan.

It seems like the oil pump drive gear is discontinued, one available new on ebay for $175 and a bunch of used ones, wtf this is not cool.

when chevy redesigned the classic small block into the LT they attempted to fix a lot of things that in retrospect may not have needed fixing and driving the oil pump with a stub shaft drive...with the housing made of plastic...buried in the lifter valley ranks right up there.

So that coupled with the short 5 year production run for LT engines adds up to a few parts that now command a premium price...like the oil pump stub shaft drive, like the opti, like the water pump and its associated support bearing buried inside the front of the block...

So these are things an LT owner just has to accept and live with..or trade in for an earlier conventional small block pre '92 vette or a later C5...but I would suggest getting that new oil pump drive while the getting is still good.

Ordered a new gear frim tick performance for $50 bucks. That's an option for those who were wondering hopefully this helps with others questions on this.

I don't think they will be able to fulfill your order. They don't have any in stock...perhaps because it's discontinued. That would have been a great option

They did fulfill it, it's already shipped, it's the gear only which is better than nothing.
