Default Emulation/Tuning Options, 1985?

Street Use, 1985, C4. TOTAL tuning N00b.

Looking at the Moates AutoProm (APU1)

http://support.moates.net/autoprom-apu1/

Is this the only option available to me with the stock ECU? How well does it work and does anyone have experience with it? (Or maybe even have one for sale?)

I realize the 165 ECU is superior in some ways, and I have one on the shelf. Have seen some articles on repinning over at third gen, and I may do that at some point. (So, it would be nice if it worked with both.) But for the moment, it will be the 870 that came in the car.

Any information or suggestions would be useful, because I know nothing whatsoever about this.

I have the Moates AutoProm. I have used it to tune my 92 lt1. I purchased the complete AutoProm kit from Moates. It have not had any problems with it. I use it to data log, and burn chips. Have not used the emulation mode of the AutoProm. I use TunerPro RT and Datamaster software with it. The few times I called them and place my order they where very helpful.

Headers, Runners and such to follow next year.

There will eventually be a roller block and a bargain basement knockoff version of the "Something Old, Something New" 355 they covered in Chevrolet High Performance. But that may be a year or so out.

Hi

I have been using the emulator on my 85 with Tuner pro which is free software, remember it is a steep learning curve always have a back up chip in case you get yourself in trouble.

The 85 ecm is very slow by todays standards but my car runs great.
Make sure you write down and changes, you can easily get yourself into big trouble if you do not record what changes you have made.

Good luck

I saw that Pwnage had one for sale and asked about it here. I guess it wouldn't work with my car?

That was when I went to the Moates site and was looking around, and saw the AUP1 bundle and became curious about it, because as I understand it works with what I have now, and with the 165 ECU if I upgrade it.

I have tuned a few 1985 computers and they are not that hard to work with, you should be able to get the car operating well. One thing that you should do is purchase the G2 adapter from moates so you can use the newer 27sf512 chips and this will also allow you to real time tune the 1985 computer. You need to remove the original chip holder and solder in this new adapter.

Cool. You can use the emulator mode without doing that though, right? Which is effectively the same thing?
