Default Volt #s ??

My volts read 14.0 to 14.2, and will drop briefly to 13.6 when the lights are turned on. I think I remember the volts @ 14.7. Is this an indication of the Alternator going out ?

Thanks in advance !

Suggest having the battery tested.

200 amp draw for 10 seconds the battery should maintain 10.8 volts.
If it falls below 10.8 volts during the test recharge it @ 30 amps for 15 minutes.
Monitor the voltage while recharging if it exceeds 16 volts your battery is sulfated it will slowly get worse & die without warning.
After charging retest @ 200 amps for 10 seconds if the voltage drops below 10.8 volts again replace the battery.

Your fine, it's not uncommon during an "In rush" to have a dip in voltage. Optimum Voltage should be 13.8-14.2 on a fully charged battery.. on a low charged Battery you will see voltage as high as 16 volts briefly,, so your doing just fine!

I was always told 13.8 was `nominal`

In high load situations (heater, lights, wipers all on) at idle voltage could drop to 13.0 at idle and be normal. If you are turning headlamps on you are also operating headlight motors so there would be more of a dip in voltage. Alternators will have max output over 1200 rpm. Many parts store will test batteries and charging systems for free.

If ou have an under drive crank pully it just gets worse. The under drive deal is the worst idea have seen for a street car. Lower speeds on all accessories at in town speeds when you need them to work.

I battled with the same problem for years on my 05. Going out and not being able to drive your Vett when you want because it won't start is a major pain in the butt. I changed batteries, went through and tested and retested any and all circuits without getting the reliability I wanted (100%). About 3 years ago I decided to fix the problem once and for all. I got an optima Battery with duel posts, and a power cut off switch. No problems for the last three years, except I have to reset clock.

After you get the problem sorted out put a battery tender on it and your problems will be over. This also helps to de-sulfate the battery and will make it last longer.
