Default 1984 Z51 wheel width

Hello, I have a 1984 Z51 corvette and my question has to do with the rear wheel width. The Z51 came with 8.5 on the front and 9.5 on the rear.

When I bought this car the other owner changed out all 4 of the original Z51 wheels with wheels from a 1986 non-Z51. So now all the 86 wheels on the 1984 Z51 are 8.5.

My question is how will this change the performance handling?

The issue I am having is the rear of the car seems to go a little sideways in sharp corners.

Could this be due to the 1986 non-Z51 8.5 wheels being on the rear of the car?

The width of the rear wheels aren't creating any of your issue. NOT A CHANCE - if all 10 wheel nuts are tight it ain't wheels.

Tire style or age - maybe. Driving style - maybe. Worn or loose suspension parts - maybe. Could be a lot of thing, start with the obvious and work from there.

The rim width should not be your issue as apparently GM used both 8.5" and 9.5" rims on the 85-87 models and there's no indication it was an issue having 8.5" rims on these cars. I don't know about the 84's but assume it's at least like the 85's at a minimum.
