Default Can H32 be repaired

or is it a design flaw?

Today I checked my code again and sure enough it was H32. While the engine was running I grounded the green lead on the solenoid and verified the egr valve moved and the engine stumbled.

Maybe the ecu never grounds that lead? Maybe there's an open connection between the solenoid connector and the ecu?

At this point I believe my egr valve and solenoid are good. Where do I go from here? There are no driveability issues and my mileage was close to 25mpg on a recent 300 mile hiway trip where the SERVICE ENGINE SOON light lit up for maybe 5 mins the whole trip.

How hard is it to remove the light?

I can't imagine removing the "bulb" - have you actually done a complete diagnostic of the EGR & the related components? Your comments indicate not. Since yours is recurring and frequent I'd think you actually do appropriate diagnostics.

My 91 does the same thing for no apparent reason and just ignore it. We don't have a smog check on anything 25 years or more so it does not matter. It always happens after cruising at light load around 65 to 70. When I get where I am going and restart to leave it is not on until the return trip home with similar conditions. It never happens around town with stop and go traffic or if I am rough with the car on the interstate. I suspect there is some sort of timer in the ECM and every time you do something to close the EGR the timer is reset to zero.

If your ECM is flash based and you know someone with the cable and software just disable either the EGR diagnostic code or both. Better to still have the light in case you have a real problem to be alerted to.

The only diagnostics I've done were described in my op.

ddahl, my SES light comes on in similar situations, just highway cruising, but will go out while I'm still driving. The longest the light has stayed on was maybe 15 mins and this last time was only about 5 mins.

I was joking about pulling the bulb.
