Looking for advice on how to get the engine / alternater wine out of my 88
Will the noise filter I see on web sites work? Thanks

I'd think you would remove the belt from the alternator and see if the "whine" is still present.

My guess is the Amps are starting to have issues. it is one of the first signs..

Or, perhaps a ground is breaking down from corrosion, blocking good contact. recall, the circuit is a loop and not all noise stems from the power side.
That capacitor may or not help, but as another posted, find out the source first, by the process of elimination.

Your task is easier with a factory system, that was not a whiner originally.

Been there; lots of articles on the subject.

This car has sat in storage for a while I will look in to the corrosion issues. It also gets a lot of scratch sound when I slide the bass& treble adjustments. Witch I thought is corrosion also.

Spray some "electronic contact cleaner" into those controls. Dirty sliders is a common problem. An alternator whine may also be a sign of a bad alternator. Have you tried the suggestion in post #4?

My 89 had the same problem..... It's was the front amps...
