MPG reading drops while idling
Hi there,
I just took two C4 vettes for a spin. One was an absolute POS and the other was a really nice, all original '92 with only 22k on the clock! The paint was a bit faded in parts and the rubbers will need to be replaced but it drove absolutely beautifully. Super smooth, quick gear changes from the auto and went like a rocket.
There was one issue though. The SYS message was flashing but the dealer said the battery was poked and they're putting a new one in on Monday, so that explains that, but I noticed the instant MPG would drop rapidly when sitting at the lights. I reset everything and it dropped up to around 4. Also said I only had 60 miles of range on half a tank. What could cause this? When driving normally the MPG was in the low 20s. Weird, huh? It idled fine too. Could the battery cause this?
BTW. This will be my first Corvette. I've wanted a C4 since I was 10 (now 40).
Cheers!

OK, yes... the average was dropping as I was idling as I'd reset it... the instant probably was 0. Now I feel silly. I'm used to L/100k in cars (I live in NZ). When I changed it to that it climbed to 40 or so. I guess that makes sense if you're not moving that you're burning fuel and not going anywhere! Haha.
Right, I'm going to go sit in the corner and think about what I've done and then I'll buy this Vette
Thanks!

A car gets 0 mph when not moving. This will drop the average mph as time goes by. It's normal. Buy the car if the price is right.

If you like the car and in budget just buy it none are perfect. 90% have faded bumpers and a few scratches and common the find drivers seat have some wear from just getting in and out. Local pricing over rules anything found a thousand or more miles away. Fair is whatever the locals will pay for it and international or even 500 mile away values are useless unless willing to travel to buy there and pay for transport.
