Like completely black as in the insulator is black? I THINK if memory serves that means 3 possible things. Either it's burning oil, but that usually leaves an oily film. Or if it's dry black then it's running rich, or the plug is no the right heat range, it's running too cold to keep itself clean.
I THINK. Maybe somebody can verify or disprove this. I know if the plug is white it's because it's running lean or it's too hot a heat range, would only make sense that black is just the opposite right?
IR-555's (I think that's the number. The popular ones) In the iridum varity.
.050" if memory serves right.
They turn this way after the car starts acting up (misfiring). I can clean them right up with a dry toothbrush (course my teeth keep turning black  )

You might want to try some normal plugs. Get some autolite 106's for about $8 and see if the problem goes away. I've heard that platinum type plugs tend to foul out very easily. I could assume that the Iridium ones would also.
