Default Dreaded Heater Core or something else?

Well I noticed a small amount of coolant on the floor, figured it was the 30 year old OE water pump but it looks like it is coming from below the heat/AC box and running down the frame. From what I have read and as is usually the case a leaking heater core drips inside the passenger side on the carpet. My carpet is dry and no fogging of the windshield. I guess bottom line questions is can the heater core be leaking and dripping on the outside of the box instead of inside the car?

TIA and HO HO HO Merry Christmas!

Feel up top and behind the carpet if dry good news look in the engine bay. Go to the part store and borrow their pressure tester for a small deposit.

Not very well. The whole core, minus the nipples are inside the car. I'd check hoses and connections.

Oh the humanity of it all ...... wont you be having fun over Christmas...

Buy a new heater core and pressure test it first.

I tend to Agree with the above that the Heater Core is raining on your day, But I will offer 1 Glimmer of hope. Have you taken a look at the Heater Core Bypass/Shut Off valve, It's just in front of the Heater Box along the inner fender well. I have seen the shafts leak on them. Exhaust all under hood possibility's first

unless you have mega holes in your floorpan and no carpet to soak it up, its not your heater core. you guys saw the coolant is under the car right?
not sire of year but if 30years old is right then i guess you have an 86 or 87. Check the crossover tube that comes from the rear of the pssenger head, at the passenger side of the distributor. Get a real bright light (i found mine using my iphone light) and look for wet/seepage/crud/evidence of leaking.

In my case, it was both the rear head bolts, and the crossover coolant tube that was leaking. So the
intake ->head gasket and the crossover gasket.

it was running down the back of the engine and dripping off the pssenger side of the pan or block.

This doesnt match exactly y your description of where your drip was coming from but worth a shot. I assume you looked at the rubber hose couplers that connect the hard coolant lines to the hard heater core lines.

Merry Christmas. VT

Are you positive its coolant? Had the AC been running?
Normal condensate might be what you`re seeing.

Yea, it's coolant for sure, looks like it might be the top heater hose connection. Thanks for all the suggestions.

if that is the case, the way to remove those hoses is to cut them in the middle then split them like a hotdog bun and peel them off.

The top and bottom hose are not the same size. Take a portion of the hose to the store and get some coolant hose to match.

Yep, I know I would screw up the nipples trying to pull off 30 yr old hose that's melded to the metal, this will likely become a hose replacement party!
