Default Transmission question.

I just got my first corvette and was wondering. It is an 85 with automatic transmission. When i nail it in overdrive it goes and goes and goes, but does not shift. It will get all the way to 5000 and I have to let off to shift. I am in over drive when I do this and wonder if am I not supposed to do this because it wont shift in overdrive or do I need to get the tranny looked at. Your help is greatly appreciated and I thank you before hand. Ooh-Rah!!!!!!!! :flag :seeya

Vettemech.... I thought that the shift points were adjusted/controlled by changing the springs/counterweights on the governor. I'm assuming that the original post is referring to 'nailing it' from a dead stop, and the issue is auto shift points. Also thought I read somewhere here on the Forum, that it was not a good thing to try to adjust shift points by readjusting the TV cable. Anyone have any additional comments? :chevy
