Default ECM Code 41, after changing EPROM

I'm got a ECM Code 41, (Memcal error) after changing the EPROM on the Memcal. The EPROM was failing so I copied it an programed a new chip.
Removed the old chip from the carrier and replaced it with a new chip(National Semi NM27C256Q-100)
The numbers on the original chip were (014-045915-AD8947B).
The car runs perfect, haven't taken it for a long drive yet. Before I changed the Chip, I went to a junk yard and got a few memcal's but only off of 6cycliners.
I programed one with the original chip's code (Erased with a ultraviolet light), the car runs great and I didn't have the ECM C41 until I replaced the Memcal
with the Original with new chip..

Any idear's???

The MEMCAL has a set of jumper wires that tell the ECM how many cylinders the engine has. If the jumpers are not configured correctly then you get the error code 41. I have seen a web site that shows how to add jumpers to convert a 6 cylinder MEMCAL to an 8 cylinder MEMCAL but I did not save the URL so I can't pass it on.

Did you use that with an adapter or actually attempt to put it directly to the old PROM with no adapter? What year was this car?

The resistor networks determine the configuration (from the BUA MEMCAL in my '86):

It's a 1990 6sp L98 Blk on Blk coupe with a ARFP-7185 Bin. I removed the E-PROM and replaced it with a new one (the original E-PROM was bad there were several flipped bits in the code file). I practised on 6cyl Memcals, before I programmed it. It started giving ECM Code 41, I guess I didn't do a good job when I replaced the chip. I did buy an adapter for the EPROM programmer from moates.net.

I did find what pin is checked for Cylinder Select. its pin Cal56. it's label in the EPROM code is FMD 2 (Fuel Modeling Device).

There are no jumper wires there are resister packs. Pin 56 on the Memcal chip should be 0 volts for a V8.
