got my new replacement shocks in, at am trying to remove the old ones, when twisting the attachment nut the shaft simply spins, Attached a good pair of vise grips at the top of the shaft ( above threads), and they simply twist off under the force of trying to back off the attachment nut, have soaked it with WD-40 with no effect.
The old shocks appear to possibly be the original shocks, and bushings are shot at all four corners.
What started as what should be a 15 minute job per shock, has now turned into a weekend job at the first corner.
anyone with any other ideas on how to get these loose?
If you have enough of the top bolt sticking up you can put a deep well socket and a long extension on it and simply bend it back and forth until it snaps. An old mechanic trick. :seeya
If the top is still in good shape, there is a socket like tool that is designed to hold it steady while you turn the top nut - I got one at Advance Auto - about $10. Some shocks have a fitment on the top for an allen wrench.
Hope this helps.

went with the AC Delco performers, The car came with the Bilsteins ( FG3)RPO ,
Anyway, got one shock off ( picked up a nut craker, but it turned out to be a P.O.S. as the cutting bit just flattened it'self against the nut ), also soaked it with a penetrant called Blaster, GREAT stuff, 15 minutes later the new shock was on.
Other front ( of course the one in the worst shape ) is still frozen.
Man if i had a torch, i would just drill it, then cut it off.
