I just purchased a 1993 Corvette that had been in an accident and nothing happens when turning the key to start. I connected a jump box and the dash lights up, all the lights work but no start. Is there something in the VAT that keeps the starter from turning over? Could it need something reset after an accident? I think it came with the right key.
Is the car an A4 or an M6? Was the AIR BAG deployed? When you turn the ignition to just ON what is lit in the DIC? What is lit in the cluster? You might need to KEY ON a couple of times to get a confirmation of what's lit.
Are you familiar with the CCM diagnostics through the cluster using the DIC? I'd do CCM diagnostics for DTC and if you actually had a bad key then I believe you could get the appropriate DTC.
Do you maybe have the FSM? If NOT read and make sure you understand this procedure completely.
I don't think it needs to be reset but I would definitely look at a couple of things. First off, is it getting power from the ignition when you crank? If that is good, I'd have the battery topped up and tested at a Battery shop. After that, I would take the starter out and have someone take it apart and test.
