AC/Heater Question
It was pretty nasty out tonight, and my windshield was all fogged up when I got in the car. I tried out the defrost and it didn't really seem to do anything (first time I've tried it since I bought the car). I heard a slight hiss sound for a moment, but nothing came out of the vents.
Tried the heater, air conditioner, and everything and it all seemed to do the same thing. Now, I knew before that something was up with my A/C. I just put it off for now because the cooling weather lowered its priority. I figured my problem was a leak and I had lost all my coolant, so it wasn't kicking on. A call to a mechanic seemingly confirmed my suspicion.
Now however, I'm wondering if maybe my heater blower motor is bad. I know next to nothing about air conditioning systems, but I do know the main parts and what they do (for the most part). Would a bad blower motor cause nothing but a quiet hissing sound when AC or heater is engaged? By the way, I did confirm that the heater was getting warm by leaving the car off but the ignition engaged.
Any ideas, guys? If you think it's the blower motor, have any of you ever replaced this? Judging by the steps in my Haynes book, it doesn't look that hard. It can be decieving at times. I've checked all fuses.
Thanks much.
2 does the clutch on the compressor engage when you put the air on

1) Sorry, it's an 88. Originally wrote it out but must have removed it when I edited it for my poor wording.
2) The clutch engages alright.
3) It's a manual.
I was looking through the factory manual and saw that there's an under-hood fuse for the electric, and I don't have that.
I unplugged power from the motor and put a voltmeter on it. I didn't get a register on it, so assuming the voltmeter isn't toast, I guess it's more than likely not the motor. Should it have a constant 12 volts, even if it's switched to off? I turned on the ignition but not the car itself and turned on the heater. Same slight "hiss" sound but no air of any kind. That's when I checked the voltage and got nothing.
I suppose I could now try running a hot 12v wire to it to see if it turns on, but I think it may be a moot point since I don't seem to be getting voltage to it anyway.
