Default Tremec conversion C4

I have a 4+3. 135K on both trans and OD. OD is failing and leaking besides. 4+3 is just clunky.

I am 60/40 on doing in spring. A friend of mine has a repair shop and has not yet done one but specializes in older and high perf vettes. He will do.

What can I expect as far as unforeseen issues? I am aware the drive shaft needs shortening(Hurst) but not if I use Silver. Hurst offers the 500 but not 600. SS offers both at same cost. I hear 600 is a more difficult install on clearances?

What are your thoughts?

I am 350HP on motor with add on of 100HP on N20

Silver Sports has detailed installation documents on the website:

such as this one

https://shiftsst.com/media/wysiwyg/p...anual_RevA.pdf

I ran into them (Silver Sports) after seeing a mention in one of the Corvette related magazines I get and wanted to see what they were all about (and explored their website out of curiosity).

You should probably print one or more of the install docs off and take them to you friend to read, that will help answer your questions.

My 86 has a Tremec TR3550 (that's what Tremec said) in it when I bought it. I have been under there while on a lift once. Far as I could tell looks like the C-Beam, slave, bell housing etc are all oem pieces. There is no provisions for a tranny cooler from what I could find and mine was blocked off. One thing, apparently the speedometer sending unit is not compatible with the speedometer. There's a Dakota Digital SGI-5 C wired into the circuit for signal conversion and the speedometer does work with the tranny.

Again, I didn't put it in but one thing that's a little bit of a pain to me is 1st gear is more like a granny. Wish it wasn't quite as steep a gear as it is, but I can live with it as is.

About all I can tell you on it. Hope that helps.

Would this also be for the LTx years 92-96?

Thank you,
Steve

My error Hurst offers both 500 and 600. SS does not offer the 600.

If your going to put a non oem transmission in IMO a 6speed is the way to go.
A t56 from a lt1 f-body, plus there are many threads about putting a t56 in a c4 including price lists etc...

If your car still has the stock 3.07 rear, the 600 will feel just like your stock 4+3, rpm per gear. The 500 will be the same as, ratio wise, as a 3.73 rear gear in your car. Your combo needs to make the call on which one to pick.
Regarding the t56 swap mentioned by Lt4-396, i like mine but... You will NEED a gear swap after you put a Z28 T56 into your car. The 1st gear ratio in a T56 is too high (for me). I'm saving for 3.73s.

It really depends on which t56 you get, some had a 3.36 first gear others had I believe a 2.6X first gear ratio.

I'm assuming you have the 2.XX first ratio.

Yes, the 3.36 1st gear T56s are kind of rare. I do wish i had one, it would be just about perfect for my car.

Yea I believe they only came on 93' lt1s.
There is a bunch of t56 sellers where you can request a 94' model year t56.
