Driving the other day I hit a fairly serious bump and the cruise quit. Thinking it was something easy, when I got home I looked at all the obvious sections, hose, electric connections, fuses, etc. Nothing! So I left it for a few weeks and yesterday decided to take off the unit itself. When I detached the boot that covers the accelerator wire, the chain had come apart. The connector had rusted. I put on another one and now I have my cruise back. Just a helpful hint for another place to look!
The cruise didn't work on my 94 when I bought it. One of the first things I fixed. Looked at the vacuum hoses, they were dry rotted and one of them was collapsed. I bought new hose, installed, and the system started working again.
When I got my 86, cruise was hit or miss. Found the vacuum hose was cut part way through where it went under the brace. Simple replacement and all was good.

Here is what went wrong with mine, one of the brake pedal switches was bad. broken tab causing a bad connection and cut out every once in a while till it stopped working completely.
Been great since.
