Diacom Comm. Prb's to a 92
I noticed the Reg adapter ties the SIR data to the Serial data line, for that car. That seems odd.
The PCM is not reporting any errors, but is operating in a fail mode. End result is, I'm not sure if it is a comm problem or a bad PCM.
This is just from experience with 85 and 91 though...when either system was in Limp, I could not link.
I do have what I consider the latest software. They have not changed it in years, and I got the lastest a few years ago.
Because the company is useless after the sale, I have scanned the users guide if anybody needs a copy. It turned out to be a pretty big file. More than 3 Meg worth.
The problem ECM does not appear to be in limp home mode., as there is no SES light. Yet the fans are on 100% of the time. This is one of its failure modes. A rather odd one, as it is responding to a failure, but it does not report a problem to the driver!!!! GM diag's say replace the ECM.
DocJ,
I've been looking for a disassembled copy of the code. Any idea if that is available? A commented version would be an incredible find.
Thanks, The ECM page shows the breakdown of the tables, but I don't see the commented code. Is there any?
Any idea if the 165 used the same 6803 processor? I'll venture a guess the 03 supports the full 6800 instruction set? I seem to recall someone posted that info, but I don't remember where it was posted. I beleive the 165, 727, 730 are all the same P4 design.
I have tried to find the TCat board before. I guess I'm blind, but I couldn't find it. I figured there would be a big fat link on their site but ???? I've been looking for ODB2 info from them.
On the ECMGuy site, under "tuning", there should a tab for "example hacks". The commented $8D hack is a pdf file of about half a meg (300 pp). I think it is also on the DIY EFI site. If you don't see it, send me an email & I can shoot you a copy.
On the TC site, follow the "links" tab to the "TC Mailing List" - you can browse the archive or subscribe from there.
I've not worked with any 165 ECMs directly. Ludis site shows them as a P4 (same as 727 & others), so I always assumed it was a 6811 processor but I don't know for sure. The EFI site probably has info on it.

PS - I could have sworn that somebody uploaded commented hack info the the DIY incoming site, but now I can't find it. Anybody seen any around besides what's on the ECMGuy site?

It is enough to start with.
I think all the P4's were 8603 micro's. 165, 727, 730
I don't think the HC11 came into play until the ODB2, but I'm speculating. (I don't know what the 278 or the 333 uses.)

(ECM IC numbers are from Ludis' site - I never took mine that far apart.)
An older Dell 3100 was used and the LPT was set for 0x0387 (or was it 0x3d7?) Normal. When this was done, the data came in fine.
First tried a Dell 8000 and 8100. This BIOS does not allow address selection. None of the protocals would work. (Normal, ECP, EPP, BiDir)
I don't know why, but this should have worked. It appears to be a protocal issue.
Either way, diag mode could be set. When it didn't work, there was no data being displayed, and errorenous trouble codes were reported.
