Instrument cluster

I'm posting this for a friend of mine. He has my old 84 4+3 Vette. After all these years instrument cluster is not functioning. I know, 85 to 89 cluster is slightly different. Is it possible to install these later cluster in a 84?
Also, any suggestions in finding used cluster?

There are several places that rebuild them on Ebay and they run about 150.00 for a rebuilt.

All he really needs to do is have it taken apart and resoldered, and replace the bulbs inside.

I dont know if a later unit can be used in an 84 though.

Anyone know whether 84 cluster and 85-89 clusters are interchangeable?

I just ran into this. The bezel part number for 84-85 is different from 86-89. Any will swap out and plug in and work, but the bezels will not fit right over them. I know I bought an 84 cluster for my 86, haven't decided whether to get a new 84 bezel or trade my 84 cluster for an 86 or newer. Hope this info helped.

Do you want to sell yours to my buddy and buy 86? If so how much? And do you know if the one you have work correctly?

Actually the one that I bought worked for about two weeks. Then started having the usual problem where the backlighting goes out and the turn signals light up. I know how to fix I am just being lazy. I might be interested though if your buddy is, what is exactly wrong with his? If it is the same thing I might be willing to outright trade. If he is not good with elec. stuff any electronics store should be able to re-solder the connection for pretty cheap.

If he does not want to go that route, check the parts for sale section of the forum and Vette-to-Vette is parting out a bunch of early C4's, don't know what he'd charge for one of these though, and you run into the same thing happenning to you that happenned to me.
