I have a Dana 44, that I have swapped into my 1993 corvette. All is good, except for one thing. The Rear Yoke, that goes into the diff, has 3/8x16 holes for the U-Joint straps. I can't find anything about them. The old strap was cracked so I tossed it. Before I tossed it, I went online, and ordered replacement, and didn't look that the standard ones are 1/4 or 5/16. Anybody else run across these, and if so, anybody have a part number for the strap kit? Also anybody have an idea on the year of the rear diff?
I've never seen a 29 spline D44-HD pinion flange that used 3/8-16 hardware, doesn't matter 1310,1330 or 1350 series u-joint. An older 26 spline D44 no also. If someone had maybe a pinion flange that used a u-bolt & nuts for retention and built it using that then maybe that's a possibility but I'd think very ODD. They would have had to tap those bores for hardware. Did someone do something stupid and try incorrect hardware and then had to drill and tap to try and salvage the pinion flange? That's a maybe!
Does the 1310 u-joint fit the flange properly?
Have you checked the threads on the short-axles? I'd check them if you haven't with the proper hardware that you removed. Maybe you've more issues. All of this should have been checked before the install!!
You need to identify the flange first by measuring the "center to center" dimension of the bores. A typical 1310 flange for straps is I believe 1.587 - if it were a flange initially intended to be used with u-bolts then I'd maybe expect 1.416.
What you might want to maybe confirm since you seem to mention it's installed is what is the HEX of the pinion nut? The D44-HD is actually dimensioned as 1-9/32 and if an older D44 it could be 1 1/8. Do you have a socket that fits the pinion nut?
How to salvage your situation? There's maybe every reason to question the seller OR maybe you just don't know what you're doing!!
