Default Adjusting Shift Cable 1985 c4 Auto

My trans does not shift at the correct points.... I have heard that the "cable" needs adjusting: So...
1: Where can I take the car to get this adjusted?
2: What is the cable called?
3: Where is the cable located?
4: What type of cost am I looking at.

Thanks
Tony

Transvestite Cable Adjustment: http://home.windstream.net/mcfly/tv_cable.htm

I'd push it all the way in and crack the throttle to max and call it a day.

Did your computer "autocorrect" change TV to "transvestite?" ... you might need to be careful with that.... people will start thinking strange thoughts about you.

Anyway, I read the article and might try that at home. HOWEVER, I supposed your regular garden variety ASE certified mechanic should be comfortable doing this? correct?

... anybody else?

Just my particular brand of humor.

Yes, they should be. Hell, if you were nearby I'd do it too. For $120 an hour, you bet I would. This is something you can do. Push the button and the cable sleeve all the way back. Crack the throttle as wide open as you can without breaking something. It's adjusted. If I had to do it right now, typing this would have taken me longer to do than to adjust it.

Default 85 shift cable adjustment

I too have an 85, and it shifts up to quickly. If the cable adjustment you perform doesn't correct the shift points, you might want to research the chip that controls the shift points. I've read on this forum that HLH3200 chip is a later GM mod chip for 85's that corrects shift points to improve drive-ability.
