Default Help needed please.

My driver's side headlight motor on my '86 makes a weird nose when they fold up and away when I turn the lights off. It seems as if some gear is stripped and the motor just keeps on spinning. I've read something about 1984-1988 vettes having this problem.. Do I need some new gears or just some bushings? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that the early (87 and below) had nylon gears which strip out. But the fact that it moves seems to counter that thought. Have you opened it up to take a look? They do make metal gears for replacemnt.

If the gear is striped it will continue to run.Look in Eklers or MAD & see if you still got the original type motors because alot were changed to the 88 style.
You'll also see the gear sets in there.
I myself could'nt replace my gear,& ended up bying a replacement motor.
About $100 :chevy

I haven't taken it apart yet. The motor works fine, it's just when I close the light it makes a loud buzzing noise and by closer inspection I have noticed that the manual light operation **** just keeps spinning. It seems as if it lost it's 'catch' on something and just continues on spinning the mother. It just seems as if something in the motor has stripped, I was thinking maybe the bushings but I don't know.

Check tech tips. I think that there is a tip on replacing the bushings, really cheap.

good luck,
