Hello Boo383

Its very easy, just plug and play. I had problems before with the fuel pressure, but after I installed the Walbro 340 my fuel pressure is more stable. But the most improvements are under boost. The pressure will now hold and rise under boost up to 12psi. Before I run 12,02 and after I installed the 340 I run 11,72.

regards

Tomas

Help! I am installing the racetronix kit. Got everything but now I am installing the pump. I have a 84 and can't figure out how to hook it up. The new pump comes with a harness that has a black and a white wire with spade connectors. The white wire is long enough to go to the connection on the filler flange, I believe it is positive. My 84 has a capacitor inline with the positive wire. Should I leave the capacitor inline and cut/splice new harness? I thought everything was plug & play. Also, the new black wire on the harness has two wire connected to it. One has a spade connector the other has a black plug type connector that I can't figure out what it goes to. Hopefully someone can give me some clues!!

I am into the pump change on my 84. Above the old pump is a thick piece of rubber with two clamps on it, does not look like standard fuel line. Might be 3/8 but really thick. Anyway, mine is all cracked and peeling. Is this something special that a dealer has? Or can I just use some thinner 3/8 or whatever matches up?

The wires are cut off of the capacitor as the filtering is now in the new pumps. Use the clip to remove the black wire from the factory pump connector by inserting it into the release channel on the end of the connector. You will have to remove the blue terminal lock first. Reposition the tang on the terminal once removed (bend up slightly) and insert it into the supplied single channel connector supplied. This then plugs into the mating connector on the Racetronix in-tank wiring. The gear clamp with the male terminal is tightened onto the metal tube / spine of the unit and is used as a redundant ground since the old factory ground may be questionable. The female terminal on the black wire / Racetronix harness plugs onto this male terminal on the gear clamp.

Make sure you remove the rust from around the inner edge of the sending unit so that the new gasket and o-rings can seal properly.

There is a slight variation to this on some early '94s.
The ground wire will have a ring terminal on it which hooks up to the pump. In this case a nylon butt connector (not vinyl) can be used to splice into the Racetronix harness. The ring terminal is removed from the factory ground wire and the end of the wire stripped. This can be coupled with the Racetronix harness by removing the small female terminal that would be normally inserted into the connector using the butt connector. Unfortunately there is no true way to make this rare variation of the in-tank wiring fully PnP. You can also opt just to use the clamp and ground terminal on the Racetronix harness and leave the factory ground out of the picture be cutting it off beside the capacitor.

ok Racetronix, thanks for the help! I have it all figured out except for the blck/ground connections on the new in tank harness. I see that the spade connector is a ground and goes to the gera clamp on the pump spine. I am still confused about the other connector and where it goes. I also am still looking to see how to get the factory positive wire off the connector so I can slide the new white wire/pos on it.

FINISHED! Anyway I had to use one of the butt splices for the ground wire, not the one to the gear clamp. My 84 ground had a hook or circle connector on it. I used the butt splice as opposed to abandoning it. Car fire right up! As soon as I change my serpentine belt I will test drive it. Nice quality kit and parts. You should invest in some step by step instructions to help the less intuitive like me!

You figured it out OK. The terminal you cut off on the end of the black wire would normally be inserted into the little black connector in your kit and the plugged into a factory wire. The '84 C4s do not have this as the factory pumps are of a really old design which take ring terminals. If you cut the small terminal off, stripped the wire and butt spliced it to the factory ground wire bonded to the sending unit you are fine.

We changed the kit not long ago to include this special wiring, along with a custom tank gasket, stainless bolts w/o-rings, hex key, etc. but we have not completed the manual for it yet. The ad still shows the generic in-line power adapter which all other vendors sell but does not work in many applications. There are three wiring variations in the tank. '84-'85.5, '85-'88, '89-'96.
