Just checked my FSM no downshift could be ECM or TPS. But mine is for an 84. The wiring is a bit different but the concept is the same.

I guess your ECM is not programmed this way because the car was originally fitted with a TV cable style transmission.
Yes it appears they swapped everything. They must have had the intention of converting to the button switch because it’s cooler, but probably realized it was more involved. The k-n-o-b and button were trashed, so I replaced those with factory. This is the only cosmetic repair I’ve done to the car so far lol. 60 for the leather wrapped handle, 25 for the button. But it’s a joy every time I use it. Worth the $$$.

So there’s 3 cables on my throttle body: one goes into the firewall, one to the cruise control, and a third mystery cable that disappears behind the intake manifold. Im guessing this is the remnants of my TV cable, which serves no purpose anymore. There’s no cable on my trans, either.

I’m ok without the downshift function tbh, I just want my OD as a fifth gear, which is how it currently operates when it’s actually working. I just need to iron out the intermittent operation...

Good stuff. I’m going to follow this line of reasoning and swap the relay for $25. I know my fluid level is good. I’ll let you know how it turns out. Again, I’m not concerned about the downshift function- so if the relay fixes the intermittent ops, I’ll be a happy camper. Thanks again.

If I can fix the intermittent ops, I might look into this. I’m guessing it already has been modded to bypass the downshift function though, which is ok with me

So how do folks bypass the downshift function to make OD operate like a fifth gear (on or off)?

Yeah the one disappearing over the back on the Engine is the TV cable. If operates in the opposite direction to the throttle cable and the cruise control cable if that makes sense. It must be just tied up under the car some where.
