Just curious, don't you have a 4+3? Will your timing get thrown off if you have to take your hand off of the shifter?
I am looking at adding a line lock - I cannot get my drag radials hot enough to grab. I was thinking about a temp. setup where it will attach to the shifter when I need it. Then your hand never leaves the shifter. :yesnod:
I was thinking that you still need to shift some gears with the line lock.
What about when you release it? Will you be idleling? What about using it on the line?
Ahh ok I understand now. Procedure.....
1. Roll around water box.
2. Back back tires into it.
3. Spin tires once to get wet.
4. Roll forward 4 or so feet.
5. Engage brakes.
6. Press/hold line lock button.
7. Shift to second, hold in clutch.
8. Bring RPMs up to like 5000
9. Dump clutch, spin tires.
10. Spin spin spin until satisfied and release line lock to roll out of it smoothly and go into neutral letting off gas.
11. Stage.
Like Red Rocket, I'm installing mine where the cigarette lighter goes. It makes for an easy installation, looks factory, and you don't need to drill out any holes.
Why not a push button switch such as a remote start switch...then you could have the switch anywhere you like...maybe in the bin behind the drivers seat.
Alright Scorp This is ambitious but would be super cool.......Replace your console cover with one from an 85 4+3. Rewire your OD button to where it is controlled by the 85's console button. Then wire the line lock switch up to where it would be controlled by the 87's 4+3 button in the shifter!! It would be awesome , but a fair amount of work. I would love to see the confused look on people's faces when they are like, "WHy do you have 2 OD switches?"
The 84/85 trick is nice, one bad thing.... it is a on/off switch not momentary. I don't want to change to that style. That and the center bezel is $$$$$$$$$$$$$. :( Unless I used the 84/85 switch as the line lock switch, it is within easy reach. Hmmmm....
All in the relays. The OD itself doesnt trigger off momentary, its got voltage the whole time its in OD, the relay does that. Could be rigged the same.
I am currently having a friend (electrical smart) wire up a relay setup that will work with the OD and in **** button, to turn my OD on without any computer involvement, etc. He said its not hard at all
Center bezel is probably a bit pricey, but might be worth checking out the junk yards for...
Installed mine using the horn button. At the track I disconnect the horns and plug in my harness to the line lock. I went to the juck yard and got a horn with the plug the same as the Vettes. I took the plug off the horn and rewired it to solenoid. I put a piece of covering over the wiring so it looks stock and ran it alongside my front end wiring harness. After coming out of the box I step on brake and hit my horn. Only drawback is you cant have both horns and linelock if you wanted to heat them up on the street.
