1989 tpi car. my fuel pump isnt getting power. i have an areomotive 340 pump installed a few months back. so the car isnt starting. i have applied 12v to the g pin and it started right up but now not even that works. ive used multiple relays. my oil gauge seems to work on the dash. i was able to start it like 5 times by using the obd1 plug but now nothing and im late to work today! ive checked the fuses too. when i use starting fluid it runs till it runs out

Did you upgrade the wiring to handle the extra current for the larger pump? I have a walbro 255 and my stock wiring failed after a few months of use. I had to get the wiring kit that goes from the alternator to the tank and also the in tank harness.

no i didnt and i was wondering about that. how did your stock wiring fail? where did it fail? i thought about putting a little bit thicker wiring from the relay straight to the pump i just didnt want to start hacking up my car

The first time it burnt at a connector just in front of the passenger side door. Second time the in tank harness had an intermittent open circuit. Took a while to find that one. I used the racetronix harness which connects to the alternator and has its own relay. The original harness plugs into it to control that relay. No cutting of the original harness. The in tank harness has heavier wiring.

i rewired my pump to a new relay off my alternator. i had the sending unit out and the plug that goes through to the inside of the tank to a little yellow brick thing was looking pretty toast and burnt about an inch long but i was able to get the pump to turn back on with out issue. i havent tired to start the car yet cause i pumped out the gas yesterday too. did you change the wires on the part of the sending unit in the tank? if so how did you seal the tank cause id like to change the burnt wires out

ive found the racetronics harness but its doesnt say anything about an internal harness and it looks pretty descriptive. ill keep looking though. and i didnt read your post fully the first time. and now i know thats where my problem is.

thats everything i need!!!!!!!!!! thank you so much. ordering it tomorrow!!!! regardless if it doesnt fix my issues ill be happy to have that cooked wire out of my sending unit!
and ill leave an update for people that may be experience similar issues
like i said earlier my wires were cooked before i installed the aeromotive and the plastic plug that goes through the tank was a little cooked. not sure what pump was in there prior i still have it and will investigate what it was, maybe it was a 255 pump
