a few months ago I bought a 88 coupe, with a transparent top,(in really ruff shape), so I found one o-line and bought only to find that it was from a later model(I was told it came off a 87),the front brackets don't line up with the bolts, tried to adjust them,no way will they work,so my question is has anybody else run into this problem and found a fix for it,I have talked to people at Zip Corvette parts and been told the 86L-88 brackets will not work on this top,and I need to use a top from that year, any help out there on this Thanks In advance

Hi
The C4 has 3 generations of targa roof's and they do not interchange without replacing the windshield header brackets, see image below to identify them. 84-86 Early , 86 Late to 88 and 89-96.
You can buy the header brackets and plastic trims to fit any generation C4 roof, see ebay link below.
I'd think I'd shop for a top to fit the brackets on the car now, particularly if the top fit and latched well. You should be able to sell yours locally and recover most of or all perhaps of what you've spent.
Post a snapshot of your top (THE ONE YOU NEED) and let the CF USERS ID it for you.
Your location is interesting, right on I81. Perhaps a user that travels I81 frequently will see your post and be able to help. It would be good to find one locally, they don't ship well.
If you actually need an '86L -'88 they've become harder finds. If your recent buy is the '89+ then I'd think a visit to a local salvage yard and buy everything from the same car. You'd need the brackets and upper trim. The brackets need inspected to be confirmed as complete and functional.
