Default remove and replace the k member / engine cradle.

anybody rnr'd the front k member or cradle after hitting a rock on the road?

can this be done by supporting the oilpan and trans pan with wood blocks and then unbolting engine mounts et al and dropping k member / cradle out the bottom?

I did search and found one thread from way back but no threads logging the experience.

comments appreciated.

I have replaced a couple in my dealership day's, It is a bit of a chore but Would recommend using a Engine Hoist or some other holding devise, along with less chance of Damaging the pan and you will probably need the space if your doing it on your back.

If your doing it on a lift use a thick board or plywood with some R-Board between wood and oil pan to spread the load, whatever you support it with make you trust it.

Ditto...I replaced mine with one from a newer model..thought about it for a while ...then just pulled the engine ..I left the trans , I ratchet strapped the trans up hooking it on The braces by the hood latches... wasn't as bad as I thought it would be...

looks like I am doing a engine cradle swap on my 1987. Has anybody out there done this in their garage without Engine pull?. If so, what was used to support the engine and transmission. What blocks? That's what I'm thinking. I have a supply of six by sixes I can cut up.

I did one on the Body Shop floor WITH OUT A LIFT and not pulling the motor, I used floor jack under the pan for some, But also do remember using the Engine Hoist to support at one point leaving all in the air while we swapped the frames.

I think the hoist was used to get space under the car and I was concerned with possibly damaging the pan.

My fiche doesn't have a listing for 92-up. Kind of odd. I know those cars have the part. My fiche was issued Nov, 2001. both P/N's above were DISCON at the time.

thanks. found an 86 for 250$ from my local boneyard up here in yyc.

hard to believe this 87 has been sitting lame for 2 years!

will be nice to get it fixed and out the door.

Sorry I missed your reply, I didn't get a notice.

Thanks
