Hi everyone. New owner of an 84 vette (I know I know). Got it cheap from my step dad after it had an engine fire. Apparently a radiator hose developed a leak & shot coolant on the distributor. It got extinguished quick but the wiring harness is shot. I bought the best one I could find on ebay & it is in pretty good shape except for 1 connector. Was hoping someone could ID it for me. Tried to find it on the original harness but couldn't as some of it as already been removed. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Crossing my fingers this harness isn't for an 82.
Was there a piece of tape wrapped around the harness near where it attaches to the connector on the firewall/cowl panel? If there's a tape with a 4 digit number I believe the harness can be ID'd as to origin.
If you can't ID the harness as original and correct you might start over. The connector in your hand can maybe be ID'd if you provide wire colors and their relationship to the connector. That connector is likely ID'd as A - B - C -D - E etc. Wires might be solid or have a stripe - important to note color and stripe.
It's a 5 pin connector, A-E. Pin A=2 red wires, B= black/white stripe, C=green/white stripe, D=red, E=orange.
Upon further inspection, the connector isn't melted. It's some kind of black grease. I should be able to clean it up. Still would like to know where it goes.

I'd say it's for the fuel pump relay, in the vicinity of the booster to the right.
I believe with the wiring configuration you've got for the fuel pump relay you can be reasonably sure that the harness is '84 NOT '82. The A terminal wire color is different and the relay is located inside a rear storage compartment.
Looks like fuel pump relay like others have stated. I know this because I had mine looked at when I changed pumps. It wasn't as dirty but it looked like that one somewhat.
Good to know it looks like an 84 harness. I've cleaned all the black grease out of the connector & it looks much better. I'll be going through & cleaning all the connectors before install.
Even though this cars an 84 & upgrade options are limited, I'm excited to get it back on the road. It runs really good as some work had been done to it recently : rebuilt throttle bodies, new (84) fuel pump & an ecklers cat-back exhaust w/ hi-flow cat.
The upgrades I'm planning are the renegade intake, roller rockers & ceramic coated headers. Will also look into shedding some weight where I can.
The previous work was done by my step dad who sold the car to me after the engine fire. He ended up with a 96 LT1 collectors edition. I don't want to open the engine up as I'm just a drive way/youtube mechanic with harbor freight tools. haha.
What headers did you get & how did they fit? Did you have to buy a mini-starter too? I've read the TPiS headers fit the best but they don't sell the front y-pipe.
I bought a cheap set of headman headers as I wasn't sure about putting headers on the car. Link below. I had a Corvette specialist install them for me. He's owned a few '84's. It cost me roughly 6 hours of labour. He had to install a bracket piece for the 02 sensor and cut a bit off each side where the header connected to the exhaust as the headers are fairly long. I stopped by to watch for a bit and overall they weren't too hard to get installed. He added some heat wrap around some wires on the passenger side. I didn't have to change the starter and was told it shouldn't be an issue. I've only put about 50km's (25miles) on the car and have had no issue's. I drove it to work this morning(30 minute city drive) shut it off and then started it two minutes later, fired up right away.
