Hello everyone how are you this evening I just have a simple easy question how do you remove the distributor I have never done it before have done it on Ford and Jeep never Chevy so is there anything I should know I know already it's a 9/16 Bolt but is there anything special about it I have a friend that told me he keeps breaking his off so is it straightforward or is there a trick and standing from the passenger side which side do I wrench to loosen it forward or backwards thank you in advance
No trick I was using a 14mm long wrench but with the egr there I bought the actual chevy distributor 9/16 wrench at pep boys. It is a curved wrench to miss the egr solenoid. Just loosen it and rotate the dizzy.
EDIT What I did do was after loosening it enough the last time I out a glob of copper antisieze into the threads so I can loosen and tighten easier.
Good Luck
I didn't really think it was a headache but from what I heard from other Corvette owners I just want to get a second opinion before I cut loose on it you know so alright cool so just a pretty much straight forward cool alright it's just that it really bothered me when he said that he always breaks his I was just like why how can this be are you changing these with oil changes alright cool alright thank you
Just real quick did you have to use a breaker bar to loosen it for leverage or did you just use the Straight Up GM 9/16 distributor inch and just push
Mine was pretty tight that is why I got some antisieze in there but I just slowly turned counterclockwise and it loossened enough for me to rotate dizzy. However that is spelled.
Thanks so much I didn't think it would be a problem but I just like to make sure before you get started you know let me know counterclockwise because direction is half the problem and good idea about the anti seize I have to pick some of that up thanks
I can't imagine how you would break this bolt! It doesn't need to be extremely tight! It's just a clamp to keep the dizzy from turning . . . easy! And you don't need to remove the bolt to remove the dizzy. The bolt hole is slotted, so loosen the bolt, slide the clamp away from the dizzy, and lift out the dizzy! Easy! (Optispark excluded!)
This girl's on 86 she doesn't have optispark but yeah it shouldn't be that hard I just never did it before I never didn't engine before where the distributor is right next to the firewall
