Hello Corvette world! I adjusted the cables connected to the ASR by an excellent video in the "tips" section on the forum. Seems to be driving normally in the 100 miles since. Per the video the cable sheaths are extended toward the firewall. I could not move the adjuster on the cable between the ASR and accelerator pedal toward the firewall no matter what I tried. I even had the release button held down with a small c clamp with a shot of silicone down the release button. I pulled so hard the adjuster housing slid back exposing the teeth underneath. After sliding the housing on the adjuster back where it was and snapping the housing end cap back on I went ahead and completed the adjustment per the video "tip" anyway. I recently got the two book factory service manual. In the ASR adjustment section a picture shows the two accelerator cables moving one way to extend the cable sheaths and the TV cable moving the other way to extend the cable sheath.
Am I reading this wrong? Which way do the adjusters move to fully extend the cable sheath on the three cables? I'm concerned as this is a critical adjustment. Or is my OCD in overdrive as it seems to be driving normally to me ? It is a 92 and was not shifting to second till around 35 under normal acceleration and when it did shift to second it would bang hard. That's what started this all. Thank you all very much!
Any thoughts anyone? I just love this car and it would kill me if I screwed up the trans! If I did would symptoms show up after driving it for about 100 miles?
Thanks! It was shifting in to second with a bang with light throttle at 35 or so before any adjustments were made. Now the 1 - 2 shift is smooth at light throttle at about 10 - 15. The 2 - 3 and 3 - 4 are smooth also. When you get on it the downshifts hit firmly from 3rd and 4th. From a dead stop starting with shifter in 3rd under medium/heavy throttle ( not wot ) it hits 2nd and 3rd nice and crisp.
My main concern was not getting any sheath slack attempting to move the throttle cable
adjuster going to the pedal back toward the firewall. I went ahead and did the adjustment procedure at the ASR using the 1/8 drill bit and in/lb torque wrench. ( reference first post )
I cannot find a new pedal cable. Does it sound like it should be ok? I have since put about 100 miles on it. Again THANK YOU!!! Would the 3rd - 4th clutches be smoked by now if the ASR adjustment was out of wack?
