1994 Corvette six speed transmission issues, I recently purchased a 94 with a six speed that had a bad clanking rattling sound in six gear, and whining in the other 5 and neutral with the clutch out. I took it to a good transmission shop locally they replaced the transmission with a used one all the other gears are quiet and working properly however when you are in sixth gear there is still a loud clanking/rattling any ideas? The shop owner thinks it has something to do with the exhaust system or rear end? As a sidenote this is an LT one car he said the transmission that was in it was a ZR1 transmission he replaced it with another zr1 transmission.

I would find that hard to believe, as the input shaft on the ZR1-1 is longer than the LT1. Post a picture of the two I'd plates on the ZF6, the one that was removed, and the one that is bow in the car.

I just picked the car up from the transmission shop, it's a 100% better, no noise in neutral shifts great, the rattle is only when the rpm,s are low in 6th - at 60mph in 5th gear it's at 2000 rpm. I was told It does not have the original dual mass flywheel. I'm not a mechanic where do I get a picture of the plate?
About the plate, the ZF 6-speed transmissions are either black tag or blue tag. And as ChumpVette said, they are also slightly different depending on the engine application: LT1/LT4 or LT5 (which is the ZR-1 engine). You will see the tag on the side case of the transmission, on the passenger side I believe.
The dual mass flywheel is original equipment and helps to quiet some of the transmission noise when idling in neutral, described as "rocks in a tin can." Using a single mass flywheel will make the transmission noisier idling in neutral but won't really hurt anything.

To add to this, if the disk that was installed does not have a sprung hub, it will add to the noise. The car originally came from the factory with the DM flywheel and an unsprung hub in the disk. But if you replace the flywheel with a solid flywheel ("single mass"), then you are supposed to use a sprung disk instead. The problem comes when someone looks up the proper replacement parts for a ZF6-equipped C4 and the computer tells them to get an unsprung disk.
If your car has an unsprung disk, it won't hurt anything. It will just be noisier than if it had a sprung disk.

Slideshow: A Jaguar designer's personal project imagines what a modern front-engined Corvette might look like if Chevrolet revisited the golden age of the Stingray.
