DISREGARD THIS POST (unless used for checking and double checking your work or a similar issue, problem has been solved)I wanna make this short and sweet. Pretty much whenever I turn the steering wheel left or right, about half way either way, the car bogs slightly and all my instrument clusters light flash on and off until I move the wheel again. Whenever the lights do flicker I hear the spark of wires crossing. If I leave it there long enough the car will just shut off. I had this issue two times before which both times caused fires. The first time it burned the steering column to the ground, nothing else was damaged. The second time I caught the symptoms and was able to prevent it from being a huge fire. The second time it happened I replaced the turn signal switch/multifunction which had fixed the issue for half a year. But then the car sat for a while and I have to drive it again and the issue is back. Any ideas on where to look at this point? Headlight switch and ignition switch are new. I don't see any wires crossing when I turn the wheel but I can't really see inside the column. I'm going to disconnect the horn fuse and see if the horn contacts aren't playing tricks on me.

i just found the culprit. My power wires run over the steering knuckle/column in the engine compartment. The wires are stripped and exposed but would only make contact when it turned a certain amount to the left or right. The power wire was grounding right off the column.
