Default Exhaust upgrade

so I've been wanting to upgrade my exhaust on my 89. I do live in cali so if I go with dual I'll have to switch it out every 2 years for emissions. Was thinking about the corsa system but it's still a y pipe exhaust. So I'm thinking dual exhaust. This is what I'm looking at.

I want to go with stainless steel. Don't want to play the LT1 conversion game either. Someone near me wants $350 for one from a 95 which seems high to me. My motor has most of the upgrades you could do to a tpi. Just want to get rid of the last big restriction.

Can you share a little of what your goals are?

Performance upgrade? Sound? Drone tolerance? Are you install yourself, custom or stock look?

Performance upgrade and better sound. I was thinking of maybe going with the dual exhaust. And then bolting up the borla axle back exhaust part number 11134. Currently have stock exhaust with flow masters. I prefer to install this myself. I doubt any exhaust shop in California will do the modification I want.

I don't know about sound since it is individual based and I prefer it to be as quiet as possible but I don't think that dual will do anything more for performance than say a Corsa. Headers might be a better bang for your buck

I figured since my motor has a zz4 cam, flat top pistons, AFR 180 heads, ported intake and plenum, AS&M runners that dual would be better. My original plan was to replace the front y with catless which I bought but is on backorder. And get a cat back system like a corsa system. I wouldn't mind doing headers but that would be a pain to change out for California smog test.

Why? Even if it could flow more, if you don't need it, it won't make a difference. Do you pee faster if you put a garden hose over your *****? It has a larger flow potential. What if you taped a 2 inch hose over that? Would it be any faster? This is a chain. The weakest link dictates the strength. You can't get air in and out, you don't get power. What is the choke point? Address that. The rest doesn't do much.

Hey Kitt just do a 2.5"Y catback you wont notice any power gain vs hassle its not worth it.
Pretty sure the main pipe is 3" its been awhile

On headers its possible to tweak some LT1s (dougs) that have an EO#;technically not "legal" but close, havent seen anyone get turned away using them

elis2cents has an LT1 exh if you want, hes local and wants nowhere near that kind of $

Well if I really want to go with headers. I've pretty much considered melrose. I read on another thread that someone had a y pipe made for them to retain the stock style exhaust. I sent them an email to see what they say.

Maybe TPIS without emissions? Come time to test, reinstall everything and take off after?

Tpis don't have them in stock. They have the y pipe though.

Kinda why I would shy away from another C4. Vendors are moving away from the older and less sought after stuff and lower hanging fruit that the newer ones are. You may have to wait until they run a batch
