Someone please tell me that I have a problem with my cooler line/ routing / length
I have a Full Manual Non Lockup 700R4
2600 Stall
I have run the cooling lines all the way to the rear of the car (where the spare used to be)
The lines make just over a 90* bend towards the rear of the car, then back towards the top of the tail shaft, then they run all the way down the top of the tourqe arm.
just before they go over the rear end, they change from 5/16" brake line into 3/8" rubber line and the two rubber lines are maybe 2' long, they go into a B&M tranny cooler/Fan that is mounted in a hole in the spare tire tray.
please please tell me something in the mounting is causing my shifting problems!
Is the line too long? too small? rubber lines bad? anything!!
Could I have kinked one of my hard lines cutting off ATF flow?
I mentaly can not take this tranny out again and ship it back to texas for another month.
Any advice is great.
Thanks, I'm about ready to completely go off the deep end.
Bill
1st and second are very nice, 3rd and 4th slip very very bad. they do pull a little, but it is undrivable.
Could I have overfilled the tranny? not filled it enuf?
Re: -=Transmission Problems - Please Please Help Me=- (BillRed85)
If the lines are steel and of the same diameter as stock, it should not have any restrictions. If the cooler is a B& M model designed for that specific trans, it should not matter either. So either you have a kink somewhere causing restriction or you have some debris in the line somewhere causing restriction. I normally blow the lines out with low pressure air to make sure that nothing is gonna cause restriction problems. You might also want to check the temperature of the oil. Putting the cooler back there is not the best idea since heat can get trapped in that cavity.
Going back to your thread. I think that your line maybe a little small. I would have used a 3/8 line all the way thru. The 5/16 line may be the problem.

I lost both 3rd and 4th gears on my auto twice. Both times required a rebuild. I couldn't get the car to shift, but I could drive it all day long in 2nd. That got me home and to the shop for the repairs. You could always take it in for a line pressure test and that would solve that part of the mystery for you, provided the shop was reputable and honest.
