Default alternator question

hey everyone

As it looks like my alternator may be the source of my problems, I was wondering what people have gone to that have replaced their alternator - some say 10 or 12si? I think the '85 had a 17si - I really did not want to get into modifications to make an alternator fit if I can help it but I did see some nice 140amp units - from Tuff Stuff and powermaster - if those are good brands. No local places seem to have anything in stock or parts to replace - so I think I am stuck ordering regardless

any suggestions or experience with any of these ?

thanks very much

Sean

Get a Powermaster from Jegs or Summit, and be done with it.

1985 alternators are 17si configuration. three assemblies were used during the production model year.

1985 production - p/n 1105585 (120 amp), 1105450 (108 amp), 10479868 (120 amp)

personally, i'd go with a service replacement 120 amp, however, these things are fairly simple to rebuild.

if you want to go with a straight plug and play, try this - http://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo....041208&jsn=481

after the core return, around $60 from rockauto.
