Check my math
Torque increase to wheels from lower gear ratio. Going from 2.59 gears to 3.33 gives about 28% increase. Would this give 28% more torque to wheels? Math isn't my best subject!
Keep in mind that this only holds true when the transmissions are in the same gear when the numbers are to be compared. At gear changes you need to look at the transmission ratio to actually know which one has more torque to the tires for the MPH that you are going. In other words the 2.59 gears may still be in first gear while the 3.33 may be in second gear. In that case the 2.59 will have more torque to the tires.
