Re: Help me pick a torque converter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (EIGHTY5)
I've got a 3100rpm stall vigilante, I have absolutely no driveability issues whatsoever, go for it. With the set-up you have , you need 3.73 to 3.90 gears to optimize you performance.
Re: Help me pick a torque converter!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (EIGHTY5)
EIGHTY5,
I had an LT4 HotCam added to my '96 A4 coupe and the drivability with the stock TC was pretty poor. My tuner recommended a Yank Stealth 3000 stall TC and it made all the difference for me. I have no issues with it. It was smaller and lighter than their 2800 unit. I think it lists for ~$700. It would probably be a good idea to retune the ECM after adding it, though. You might want to lower the shift points and rev limiter (if it was bumped up) to account for jumping so quickly into the upper limits of your power band. :yesnod: :yesnod:

EIGHTY5,
Yup, I've got the "performance" rear end (3.07) and so far, the Yank 3000 seems fine. I have to tell you that it's still pretty new to me so I have not put it thru all the paces but in town, it's very drivable. For the most part, I don't even notice it. Don't get me wrong , it only takes a bit of aggressive throttle and the tires spin. For me though, I have not had any problems.

I'd call the tech guys at the manufacturer of each converter you're considering, and talk to them. No offense to us forum participants, but the pros are the guys to ask about this.
