My wife and I own a 89 coupe and would like to lower it, I would like to bring it down only about a inch. I have looked in the Mid-America and also the Ecklers catalog and they both show kits consisting of wedges for the front and new bolts for the rear, is this a adequate and safe way to lower one of these vehicles?
Thanks
Paul
yes it is. Its not like an import honda where they cut springs and lose quality. Lowering the corvette is simple and has no negative affects besides clearance. Putting wedges in your car are basically placing the spring that much higher in the car, so the spring doesnt know its lowered. I lowered mine like 3 1/2 inches, and i luv the ride! email at psychowette@hotmail.com if ud liek to see pics. All i did on my z07 springs was cut the rubber bouncers on the edges of the springs, effectively lowering it. The rear are just bolts that u lower.
You will love it .:D .................handles like if it were on a rail. My only problem is I might have lowered it to much in the back.:( If I hit a pot hole or something of the same nature, it bottoms out big time. :U

Did you use the wedges as well, or just remove the bouncers? I'm assuming you mean the rubber "caps" on the end of the springs, so basically the spring is bare?

Did you just put your spring up against the frame with no wedges? Wont that tear up the spring rubbing on the frame?
Did mine with the wedges in the spring. Mid America has good instructions on their web page. Just be sure to level it with a full tank of gas. I really notice a difference the closer I get to empty.
I lowered my '86 coupe about 3 inches and it tended to bottom out. I left it at about 1.5 inches and it rides fine and looks great. It did require an alignment even though the vendor said it wouldn't need it.
I also have the MID AMERICA KIT...for front and rear.....looks hard for the front, and have not done it yet......
I know what you mean... I got the front and rear kits, but just ended up doing only the rears enough to even up all 4 wheelwells... Decided to wait until some time in the future when the front end is apart anyway, like to replace ball joints, to do the lowering of the front.
How much time will it take to lower the front? I read the tech post on removing the front spring, and it don't sound like something that I want to try. :nonod:
Do the front with someone who's done it before, or take it to a shop. Messing with that spring is dangerous business. If you're not entirely sure about what to do, don't try it. :smash:
