I finally got a code, 43. Can it make your car run real rich, to where it is in a limp mode, for safety? It wont idel, but I can rev it up, and all the plugs are black, real black after a couple minutes of running. Steve

Steve, I just fixed this same exact problem on my 1990 convertible. Turned out to be the ECM. Napa has rebuilt units for 113.00 dollars, probably cheaper on the mainland.
Do you have the Moates software and cable? It’s a must to determine the problem.
My ECM was misinterpreting the TPS sensor. At idle the TPS should read .54 volts, but my ECM was reading 1.25 volts for idle, even though the TPS tested fine by itself.
Installed a new ECM, and cleaned all the carbon off the plugs. Runs great.
It is definitely a code 43, Knock sensor. I called the dealers(Cutter/JN/Waipahu), Napa, Car Quest , Parts Plus (not nice people , wanted 65 a piece, everyon else around 30-40). I am at a loss at how it is so hard to get parts here, oh well. I will get it from the mainland. They were telling me it still takes 4-7 days to get it.
My concern is will it make it run this bad? Confusing.
I ran DIACOM on it and the cheap scan tool, paper clip to get the flashing "check engine soon" light.
Steve

I was also getting the code 43, but it was misleading.
See the knock sensor was actually doing its job correctly by alerting me of the overly rich condition that intern made the car run very ruff. Turned out the knock sensor, and circuit were fine.
I’m not sure if the Moates software will work on an LT1, but if it will id be more than willing to lend you the laptop and cable for testing.
Hey Thanks, I will be home all day tommorow. I live up the hill from Buzz'a steak house, on Kaahumanu. Shoot me an email if you arent busy. The DIACOM is for 1984-1993, F Bodies and Vettes, and any othe GM with the ALDL connection. I am putting in the Knock Sensors tonight. See what happend. STeve

Glad to hear you were able to find the knock sensors locally. Let me know if they do the trick.
I have to work tomorrow, but I can stop by tomorrow in the early evening if the knock sensors don’t work out.
Redline down off of Dillingham ave had them. Well, I changed the Knock sensors, no teflon tape. COde went away. Car ran little better. Drove it down the Highway, trying to "clean" the plugs as they are still black. Didnt work. Then I got a code 65, right O2 sensor rich. Replaced it. Car started up easy but still is missing. I believe it is the plugs as they are black as can be. Usually my plugs run a red color, for years thats how this car has run. Now I think I need to change them. Hopefully the parts store will have them. They didnt this evening, and Napa was closed. SO, first thing tommorow morning, plugs will be changed.
I ran my Diacom as I drove down the Highway, and My INT's were going from 64-128. I have to look this up. That is awefully Low.
I will have my computer on all day tommorow, as I work on the car. Any help you can provide would be great. Steve
