I'm waiting for my fuel pressure tester, but I went ahead and replaced the fuel filter. Very easy job, but what was interesting is that I had almost no fuel drop out. All I did was open the cap and relieve the schraeder valve. I might have had 2 or 3oz at most drop out. Does this raise any flags? I also tried blowing air through the old one and it made a pop like the air knock something loose. Fingers crossed for a clogged filter being the issue.

while I'm at it, I'm debating draining the tank and putting all fresh gas in. This tank (the first I've put in it) is about 2 months old now, smelled pretty good although I swear I got a bit of a faint odor of stale gas from it. Tank level is low, about 1/8. Again, worried I sucked 30 years of sediment up possibly at the bottom.

which lines did you blow air in?

No air in line, the old filter once it was out.

i use FSM mostly. I want to verify my fuel delivery system is good before I start digging into anything else, although I do want to start replacing some of the old vacuum lines, especially down by the charcoal canister.

How much fuel did you expect? It has to suck fuel out of the tank not a gravity feed. Unless you know something to be stuck, I wouldn't worry at this time. Till you get the gauge, why worry about it?

I wouldn't worry about the smell. 2 months is fine. You could be imagining things.

So? If you are that worried, change the sock filter. While you are there, might as well remove the pulsator. Get a kit HERE and be done with it. You can do it all without screwing around with the parts store. I don't think there is much sediment. I did mine 10 years ago and there was nothing and I am sure nobody has touched it since it was assembled.

If the TPS were bad, would this no start condition exist? I'm just wondering if I could have damaged it while cleaning the TB.

No improvement with new fuel filter (not surprising). Did verify spark with a timing light.

Hook up your scanner and see if it starts at about 0.54V and goes up smoothly. I doubt it but you never know.

How? Did you check for a blue flame? Did you spray a fine mist of water while it is running at startup and when it is hot around the plug wires and see if the wires leak? You'd have to do this in a dark garage

All I was able to do was hook a timing light up and watch it while I cranked the motor. Flashed while cranking.

So we determined the presence of a spark. We haven't figured out if the spark quality is good or not.

Have you checked cap and rotor as to whether they are good or are there boogers hanging off the terminals?

Haven't yet, but the only reason that I haven't is that it was running until I pulled the TB, now it won't start. Seems like something related to the TB should be the problem. I don't see why IAC would not all ow vehicle to start, if something were wrong with it, I would expect a crappy idle.

Unless you have cranked the butterflies closed enough? We need to check fuel, spark and air since that is what is needed. Maybe spray a little engine start and see if it lights up and keeps running?

I wonder if I'm out of gas. That would be embarrassing 😂.

the reserve light is on, how accurate are these gauges? That might explain the slight hesitation the last time I drove it, the fact that it was running fine in the garage before stalling and then becoming almost impossible to start other than for a few seconds. I'll try putting 5 gallons in tomorrow with a jerry can and see if it helps.

How long ago did it come on? Dumping a gallon or two could work if you are out. Check fuel pressure

That was it. Started up with some gas. That's the good news, now I'm leaking tranny fluid at the fittings on the new radiator ☹️️.

baby steps I guess. Thanks for the help, cold idle is still hunting a little, time to chase vacuum leaks and fix the transmission cooling line leak. I swear I'm pretty good around a car, but the simple things are what always get you.😎

Before you go hunting maybe you can make sure that you have leaks?

I plan to go around and leak check all of it. Probably going to focus on getting tranny cooling taken care of first or I get a big puddle of ATF when I start it up.

Get yourself a scanner if you plan to keep the car. It will help you check for leaks better than anything else I can see. IF there is no leak, you might have to change every hose to feel good. If there is a leak, you will know before you go hunting.
