Default Ford 9 in the C4

Hi, today i began cutting away the brackets on the old Lincoln 9" i got my hands on and placed it under the Vette. It looks like the first thing to do is to cut the storage floor behind the seats to make room for the housing.

or is there any other solution i havenīt thought of?

Another thing! What center section and diff do you recommend? I was looking at Strange aluminium bolt through with 31 spline axles. Looks like a nice piece.

Thanks
/Svante.

You could consider using a Dutchman housing and keep the IRS
It would need some fabrication to keep the geometry correct .
Worth a look at

Looks nice, but the whole idea was to go solid rear 4-link. This will require some fabrication as well but i dont think itīs impossible.

Thanks

Woulda been nice if GM offered the solid axle as an option!
IRS sucks for drag racing, whats the rest of your plans for the car (Trans motor etc)

Yes i agree. The car has a fully built Lm7 with twin BW S366 turbos. And a ZF 6spd transmisson from a Bmw. I dont know how well the tranny will perform yet since it's new to this setup but i know a lot of guys who have put some serious power thrugh them.

I'll just have to see when i'm finished with the rear end i guess

A Ford 9" will require opening up the rear floor for clearance. I have a friend who installed on in his Calloway aerobody. He didn't want to cut the floor so his car is jacked up. I had to cut a cover my floor slightly with my 12 bolt. Needed an inch or so of clearance.

Hi Svante,

Not sure what year you have. But on my 92 it has ABS and may be different. The passenger side was trimmed for the exhaust. However, I will be removing it as to clean up the underside of the floor. To get the car to sit low (as you know) the floor will need to be removed or trimmed. My floor is removable to access the center section.

I am using the Strange aluminium bolt through (I think its called Pro Case?). I am running 35 spline axles-But would not recommend them. As you would be limited to a few locker type of differentials which are noisy, clicks, and bangs. I removed the locker and switched to a spool (not the wise choice for the street-LOL). The 31 spline can run a LSD, Detroit Locker, and others.

I have a new PC and don't have access to my photos (yet).

Good luck with the build!
Steve

No need to hack the car apart to install a solid axle. I can provide you with a complete setup, matched shocks, and springs - everything will bolt in and no nasty cross-member that WILL screw up your exhaust and ground clearance.

Simply bolt the setup in within a days time. GO racings and never worry about it again. Have built MANY of them and can give you people for reference that are running it today.

My car with a 434CI motor went 1.24 60ft times!

Contact Quick Performance for a complete center section... and any/everything else you need for the 9". Ask to speak with Brydon.

I run their Yukon Thru Bolt with a 35 spline spool in my 84.
